CITY of ORONO
Municipal Offices
Street Address: Mailing Address:
`9kESKpg' 2750 Kelley Parkway P.O. Box 66
Orono, MN 55356 Crystal Bay, MN 55323-0066
September 20, 1993 j
Douglas Merz
380 Turnham Road
Maple Plain, MN 55359
Dear Mr. Merz:
You have indicated that prior to replacing your failing on-site system, you wish to have some
assurance that City sewer will not be expanding into you neighborhood in the near future. At
this time, no sewer project is scheduled for the Chippewa Lane neighborhood. A
Comprehensive Plan Amendment adopted in January of 1993 indicates four expected sewer
improvements, none of which are near-your current residence. The nearest sewered area is
approximately one mile away and expansions to that system into the five-acre zone are highly
unlikely.
Currently the City plan is not to sewer your neighborhood. The Comprehensive Plan
Amendment does indicate that the Chippewa Lane neighborhood is a rural cluster which has a
higher potential for future septic system problems due to smaller lot sizes and marginal soil and
topographic conditions. At the time the siting of replacement septic systems becomes infeasible,
the City would then weigh options such as cluster septic systems or possibly City sewer.
However, recent septic system repairs have been feasible and therefore City sewer improvements
are not likely for your neighborhood in the near future.
Sincerely,
Stephen Weckman
On-Site Systems Manager
SW/lsv
Telephone (612) 473-7357 FAX 473-0510
