AGENDA ITEM <br />Item No.: 11 <br />Item Description: Authorization to Purchase Scales <br />Date: May 14, 2018 <br />Presenter: Correy Farniok, Agenda Section: Consent Agenda <br />Police Chief <br />Purpose. The purpose of this action item is to gain approval to purchase scales. <br />Background. The Orono Police Department uses scales when weighing commercial vehicles during <br />seasonal weight restrictions. Our current set of scales are more than 15 years old. Purchasing another set <br />of scales would be beneficial when we have multiple vehicles stopped in different locations throughout our <br />cities. With the purchase of a new set of scales our current scales would still be used as a secondary set <br />and/or backup during seasonal weight restrictions. In 2018 the police department collected more than <br />$12,300.00 for the city of Orono from seasonal overweight violations. Scales area vital piece of equipment <br />needed to enforce seasonal road restrictions. These enforcement efforts assist with protecting and <br />preserving the conditions of city roads. <br />Cost.
