AGENDA ITEM <br />Item No.: 10 <br />Item Description: Donation for Big Island <br />Date: April 9, 2018 <br />Presenter: Adam T. Edwards Agenda Consent Agenda <br />City Engineer/ Public Works Dir Section: <br />1. Purpose. The purpose of this action item is to accept a grant of material from the Home Depot <br />Foundation thru the Camp Gratitude Organization for the restoration of the Big Island Visitor Center. <br />2. Background. The Camp Gratitude a 5016 non-profit organization worked with the Home <br />Depot Foundation to secure a grant of $2,359.80 for materials as well as a commitment for <br />volunteers to rehabilitate the visitor center building at the Big Island Park. The restoration is <br />scheduled for this spring; exact date to be determined by weather and volunteer availability. <br />3. Scope of Donation. The donated materials and labor will strip and repaint the structure, repair the <br />decking & stairs, repair walls and other minor fixes to the building. <br />4. Donation Authority. Authority for cities to accept donation is granted by Minnesota Statute <br />465.03 which authorizes Minnesota cities to "accept or devise of real or personal property and <br />maintain such property for the benefit of its citizens in accordance with the terms prescribed by <br />the donor." All donations must be accepted by resolution with a 2/3 vote of the Council. <br />6. Staff Recommendation.
