AGENDA ITEM <br />Item No.: 9 <br />Date: May 29, 2018 <br />Item Description: Hiring Part-time (Seasonal) Community Service Officer <br />Presenter: Correy Farniok Agenda Consent Agenda <br />Police Chief Section: <br />1. Purpose. The purpose of this action item is to gain approval to hire a Part-time (seasonal) <br />Community Service Officer. <br />2. Background. The Police Department currently has a Full-time Community Service Officer that <br />works Monday through Friday. As the activity picks up during the summer season the police department <br />could use assistance with parking complaints, park checks and other minor tasks on the weekends. This <br />position would be temporary or seasonal. At the end of the summer the position would be evaluated to <br />see if it would continue in 2019. A job description is attached to this council action. <br />Nathaniel Schultz has been a police reserve officer with Orono Police Department since May of 2015. <br />Nathaniel was also has experience as a police dispatcher since 2006 and worked for Hennepin County as <br />a dispatcher for more than 7 years. <br />3. Staff Recommendation. I recommend that Nathaniel Schultz be hired as a Part-time (seasonal) <br />Community Service Officer. Position would be 12-20 hours per week. <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED <br />Motion to approve Nathaniel Schultz be hired as a Part-time (seasonal) Community Service Officer <br />effective May 30, 2018 at a starting hour wage of $16.59. <br />Exhibits <br />Exhibit A.
