Position Title: <br />Document Date <br />Department: <br />Accountable to: <br />FLSA Status: <br />Nature of Work <br />CITY OF ORONO <br />Chief of Police <br />September 24, 2018 <br />Police <br />City Administrator <br />Exempt <br />As the Chief Administrative Officer of the Police Department, provides leadership for law <br />enforcement in Orono which will command the respect and confidence of department <br />personnel and citizens at all times. Plans, develops, and supervises a department of trained law <br />enforcement officers to enforce the laws and ordinances for the protection of life and property, <br />and for the preservation of law and order. <br />Supervision Received and Exercised <br />Work is performed independently with guidance and direction from the City Administrator. This <br />position supervises Police Department staff, including: sergeants, office manager, administrative <br />support positions and officers. The Chief has indirect responsibility, through the sergeants, for <br />all police officers and other personnel assigned to the Police Department. <br />Examples of Work <br />Essential functions listed below are intended as illustrations of the various types of work that <br />may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them if the <br />work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position. <br />• Staffs, organizes, supervises and trains personnel to assure law enforcement services are <br />provided within the City which will command the respect and confidence of the citizens, <br />preserve law and order, and protect life and property. <br />• Delegates responsibility to subordinate officers in a manner which will remove <br />uncertainty as to their responsibilities and the level of performance expected. <br />• Reviews performance of subordinate officers as a basis for providing counsel and/or <br />commendation for services rendered as justified. <br />• Recommends to the City Administrator disciplinary action, when justified. <br />The City of Orono is an Equal Opportunity Employer <br />
