It will be restored/planted to native vegetation in the spring.
3) Excavation of the frost layer has been proceeding well. The frost layer is approximately 1 foot thick(exactly
what we planned for),which is enabling us to very effectively remove the vast majority of existing cattail
rhizomes. The stockpile of frost/cattail rhizome soils will be hauled off site once frost excavation is complete.
4) Excavation and thin spreading of hydric soils is—25%complete. In order to preserve desirable vegetation,
minimize excavation into mineral soil encountered at the east edge of the Deep Marsh, and retain existing areas
suitable for conversion to Wet Meadow, the eastern edge of the Deep Marsh was shifted slightly west in some
areas. This shift will be compensated by shifting the Deep Marsh's western edge slightly to the west. The
attached map shows the shift from the originally-designed Deep Marsh geometry(blue outline)to the revised
geometry(red outline). We will not exceed the 0.5 ac maximum for Deep Marsh.
5) Excavation/thin-spread work will continue at least into next week. We will provide another status update soon.
Please let me know if you have any questions, and thanks for all of your support of this ecological restoration project.
- Doug
Douglas M.
