REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING HELD MARCH 25, 1991 <br />( #12)HIGHWAY 12 CORRIDOR RECOMMENDATION CONTINUED <br />Bellows stated that .because the press w.�_11 publish the <br />recommendation, the residents and officials of the City of Long <br />Lake will be aware O?_ono' s position before any letter can reach <br />them. Bello-as said, "Tile recommendation only states that we <br />would like to see a minimum width right -of -way road constructed. <br />We have not go:ie into any design details, and are not telling <br />MNDOT hjw to build the road. The Planning Commission spent a lot <br />of time on that portion of the recommendation, and I believe it <br />should remain intact." <br />Mayor Paterson, Butler and Goetten agreed. Goetten stated <br />that she would like the opportunity to review the cover letters <br />that will accompany the recommendation when it is sent to. MNDOT <br />and the City of Long Lake. Callahan stated that the <br />recommendation has to be presented in such a way that MNDOT will <br />not misinterpret what they are reading. Bellows stated that the <br />City could "plain those games" indefinitely if they try to second <br />guess MNDOT. Callahan stated that it I.s necessary for the City <br />to play those games if they are to be successful in their <br />attempts to get MNDOT to do things the way Orono would like." <br />Bellows stated. that she does not want the City to bra in a <br />reactive position. Goetten stated that Orono is the first City <br />to make a recommendation. <br />Mayor Peterson recognized Charles Schroeder who asked if the <br />recommendation would include anything aboui: Highway '55. <br />Council simultaneously replied, "No." <br />Mayor Peterson recognized Donald Scott, 2300 Longview <br />Circle. Mr. Scott stated that the Planning Commission's <br />recommendation is excellent, and congratulated the City on taking <br />this position. He urged the City to be forceful, and suggested <br />that the City try to form a united front with the surrounding <br />communities. <br />Butler agreed to incorporate into her motion that Staff big <br />directed to prepare cover letters to MNDOT and the City of Long <br />Lake, and that the drafts be presented to Council at their April <br />8, 1991 meeting. Mayor Peterson agreed. Motion, Ayes -5, Nays --0. <br />Motion passed. <br />Greg Kellenburger, Orono Orchard R-oad, thought the Planning <br />Commission recommendation is "fantastic ". He encouraged the City <br />to follow up once they send the recommendation to MNDOT. <br />Toca Allquist, 415 Deborah Drive, also offered <br />Congratulations to the Planning Commission on a job well done. <br />He suggested that if may be• beneficial for the citizens from <br />Orono, Long Lake, Maple Plain, Medina, etc., to form a coalition <br />am. *= <br />
