MINUTES OF THE REGULAR ORONO COUNCIL MEETING <br />HELD MAY 11, 1992 <br />( #4) #1698 JIM RIVERS, <br />1442 SHORELINE DRIVE - <br />AFTER - THE -FACT VARIANCE <br />Mrs. and Mr. Rivers were present. <br />Moorse explained this is an application for an after - the -fact <br />variance for the construction of a screened porch built sometime <br />after 1976. <br />Butler asked what prompted the issue to be brought up at this time. <br />Mabusth explained that a neighbor requesting a variance was denied <br />and then questioned Rivers' ability to have installed the porch. <br />Butler recalled the general tone of the rules and regulations of <br />the City in 1976 and noted a much less strict climate. She felt <br />it difficult to accept any culpability on the part of Rivers <br />considering the numerous staff inspections made of the property <br />during the past years. 'She felt the application bordered on <br />ridiculous. <br />Goetten and Jabbour agreed. <br />Mayor Peterson disagreed and stated the plans specifically did not <br />include the deck. <br />It was moved by Butler, seconded by Goetten, with due respect to <br />the Planning Commission's recommendation and time spent by City <br />staff,on the application, to grant an after - the -fact variance for <br />Application #1698 for Jim Rivers of 1442 Shoreline Drive for the <br />construction of a screened porch, and to direct that the question <br />be closed and not addressed again. Ayes 4, nays 0. <br />Rivers announced that he still intended to install the green space <br />as proposed. <br />( * #5) #1700 -DALE MCCURDY, <br />4041 NORTH SHORE DRIVE - <br />VARIANCE - RESOLUTION #3116 <br />It was moved by Jabbour, seconded by Goetten, to adopt Resolution <br />#3116 for Application #1700 for Dale McCurdy of 4041 North Shore <br />Drive for a variance to allow the installation of a deck.
