Eric Larson
July 7,2016
Page 3
Topography Map
Two foot contours were downloaded from the Minnesota DNR's MNTopo Viewer website was and utilized to
approximate water flow patterns and identify potential depressional areas. The topographic map indicates that
the Project Site is gently rolling with a decrease in elevation between the west property boundary and the
residence and another decrease in elevation east of the residence to Long Lake.
Precipitation Data
Analysis of precipitation data pertinent to the project area is important to understand the wetland hydrology
indicators observed during the field work activities.
Precipitation data was obtained from the Minnesota State Climatology Office webpage, which provides
"synthetic"data for a chosen project location. The synthetic data are made up of regularly-spaced grid nodes
whose values were calculated using data interpolated from Minnesota's precipitation data base.Normal
precipitation is based on the 30-year average for the period of 1981-2010.Non-normal precipitation is
considered to be that below the 30th percentile(drier than normal)and above the 70th percentile(wetter than
normal).Table 3 summarizes the precipitation data for the past 12 months(July 2015 -June 2016). In addition,
the table provides a comparison of the actual precipitation compared to the 30-year average (1981-2010).
Sambatek also utilized the NRCS Method to determine the hydrologic conditions during the three month period
prior to the site visit.
Table 3.Precipitation Data for The Subject Property
30-Year
Average Actual Difference
Month/Year (Inches) (Inches) (Inches)
July 2015 3.97 7.27 +3.30
August 2015 4.11 3.04 -1.07
September 2015 3.41 3.76 +0.35
October 2015 2.39 2.85 +0.46
November 2015 1.68 3.91 +2.23
December 2015 1.15 1.67 +0.52
January 2016 0.82 0.33 -0.49
February 2016 0.79 1.02 +0.23
March 2016 1.73 1.14 -0.59 NRCS Method
Condition
April 2016 2.56 3.39 +0.83 Wet
May 2016 3.46 2.13 -1.33 Dry
June 2016 4.38 2.01 -2.37 Dry
Total 30.45 32.52 +2.07 Dry(8)
••• - I • • 1
• a • S •. - •
