OPEN SPACE AND TRAIL GOALS AND POLICIES <br />Orono's Park, Open Space and Trail Plan is based upon the following Goals and <br />Policies, which in turn are consistent with the other elements of Orono's Land <br />Use and Community Management Plans: <br />PARK. OPEN SPACE AND TRAIL GOALS <br />1. To provide passive open space and active recreational opportunities <br />diversified enough to serve all Orono residents. <br />2. To protect and preserve natural resource areas, wildlife habitats <br />and open space. <br />3. To continue developing the planned elements of the adopted City- <br />wide bike and walking trail plan that provides connections between <br />area parks and open space and functions as a transportation <br />corridor. <br />4. To continually assess and evaluate the current park and open space <br />options in Orono in relation to the needs and desires of Orono <br />residents. <br />5. To cooperate and actively work with public and private <br />organizations to provide additional opportunities for recreation and <br />open space that complement existing municipal, regional and <br />private facilities. <br />6. To encourage civic involvement and partnerships in developing and <br />maintaining Orono:s parks and open spaces. <br />7. To achieve the above goals within the financial capabilities of the <br />City and its citizens by developing fiscal and management policies <br />that support maintenance, development and acquisition of parks <br />and open spaces. <br />City of Orono Community Management Plan 2008-2030 Page 4E-28 <br />
