=Tcw S <br />TO: Parks Commission <br />FROM: Adam Edwards, P.E., City Engineer and Director of Public Works <br />DATE: ,March 7, 2016 <br />SUBJECT: Orono Baseball Association Grant Endorsements <br />Exhibits. <br />a. Resolution supporting the Minneapolis Twins Grant Request <br />b. Resolution supporting the Hennepin County Sports Equipment Grant Request <br />Purpose. The purpose of this item is to provide the Park Commission and update on the <br />City's two endorsements of support to Orono Baseball Association (OBA) grant applications: <br />a resolution of support for a Minneapolis Twins Grant to repair the Bederwood baseball field <br />fencing and dugouts; and a resolution of support for a Hennepin County Sports Equipment <br />Grant. <br />2. Background. The OBA is applying for two grants to improve athletic facilities that impact <br />the City of Orono. The grant applications require endorsement from the City. <br />a. Minneapolis Twins Fields for Kids Grant (See Exhibit A). OBA is applying for a <br />$6,000 grant to be matched with $6,000 from OBA and the City of Orono. The project <br />would repair the fences at the Bederwood Park Baseball Field and make repairs to the Lee <br />Carlson dugouts. <br />b. Hennepin County Grant. (See Exhibit B). OBA is applying for a —$10,000 to procure <br />field maintenance equipment. The grant requires non-profit applicants to partner with e <br />local government agency to act as the fiduciary agent. <br />3. City Participation. <br />a. Minneapolis Twins Fields for Kids Grant. The City will contribute $2,000 of the <br />matching funds to pay for the repairs to the Bederwood baseball field fence. <br />b. Hennepin County Grant. The City would act as the fiscal agent for the grant. As the <br />fiscal agent for the award, the city will be responsible to disburse the funds, and ensure <br />the funds are used for the equipment listed on the grant. <br />4. Funding. Funding for the City Cost Share for the Bederwood Baseball field fence project <br />would come from the Parks Fund. <br />Park Commission Action Requested: <br />Information only.
