Box 66 Fax (952)249-4616 <br />Orono, MN 55356 Dystal Bay, MN 55323 www.ci.orono•rnn.us <br />On behalf of the City of Orono, we wish to share our support of a trail crossing safety study on the <br />Lake Independence Regional Trail at County Road 6 (CSAH6). <br />The Lake Independence Trail crosses county road 6 just east of the intersection with Old Crystal <br />Bay Road The county road 6 traffic does not stop at the trail crossing or road intersection. Due <br />to vehicle speeds on at the crossing site getting across the road in a safe manner can be daunting; <br />especial with children. In addition Old Crystal Bay road serves all of the Orono Schools and <br />therefore the intersection with County road 6 is quite congested during prime school pick up and <br />drop off times. Enhancing the safety of this crossing would directly benefit the citizens in our <br />community, the Orono School District and all trail users. Motorist in the area would also benefit <br />from improvements at this intersection. <br />As a long standing partner with Three Rivers Park District we support your efforts to improve the <br />safety of the Lake Independence Regional Trail in our community. Projects such as this are <br />essential to making our city a place where people can choose to safely recreate, commute, and <br />engage in physically active lifestyles. <br />Thank you for considering this safety study and seeking funding for this project.
