TO: Parks Commission <br />FROM: Adam Edwards, P.E., City Engineer and Director of Public Works <br />DATE: March 7, 2016 <br />SUBJECT: Dakota Trail Resolution of Support for Thee Rivers Park District <br />Exhibits. <br />a. Resolution supporting the Dakota Trail Extension <br />b. Letter for support for safety study of the Dakota Trail Crossing at Orono Orchard Road. <br />c. Letter for support for a safety study of the Lake Independence Trail Crossing at CSAH 6. <br />1. Purpose. The purpose of this item is provide the commission an update of City's three <br />endorsements of Three Rivers Park District grant applications. <br />2. Background. The Three Rivers Park District is applying for three Hennepin County Bikeway <br />Grants that impact the City of Orono. The grant applications require endorsement from the City. <br />a. Dakota Rail Regional Trail- Navarre Connection. Three Rivers Park District is <br />requesting $100,000 to facilitate the construction of a connector trail along CSAH 19 to the <br />Dakota Trail. <br />b. Dakota Rail Regional Trail Crossing. Three Rivers Park District is seeking $10,000 to <br />assist with Trail crossing assessment/ study of the Orono Orchard Road crossing to improve <br />safety at this intersection. <br />c. Lake Independence Trail Crossing. Three Rivers Park District is seeking $10,000 to <br />assist with trail crossing assessment/ study of the Lake Independence Trail crossing at CSAH 6 to <br />improve safety at this intersection. <br />3. City Participation. <br />a. The overall project is estimated to cost $300,000. The cost of which would be shared <br />three ways between the County, City and Park District so the City's expected level of <br />participation would be $100,000. As the project gets closer to fruition a joint agreement will be <br />developed. <br />b&c. No cost participation is required for the two safety studies <br />Park Commission Action Requested: <br />Information only. -.No action required. <br />
