' DIVISION 03 Section 3450 - Architectural Precast Concrebe-Plant Cast
' E. Patching:Where core test results are satisfactory and azchitectural precast concrete units
meet requirements solidly fill core holes with patching mortar and finish to match adjacent
concrete surfaces.
' F. Defective Work:Discard architectural precast concrete units that do not conform to
requirements,including strength,manufacfiuring tolerances,and finishes.Replace with
' architectural precast concrete units that meet requirements.
PART 3. EXECUTION
' 3.01 EXAMINATION
' A. Examine substrates and conditions for compliance with requirements for installation
tolerances, true and level bearing surfaces, and other conditions affecting performance of
azchitectural precast concrete units.Do not proceed with installation until unsatisfactory
conditions have been corrected.
, B. Do not install azchitectural precast units until supporting concrete has attained minimum
allowable design compressive strength.
' 3.02 INSTALLATION
A. Install clips, hangers, and other accessories required for connecting architectural precast
, concrete units to supporting members and back-up materials.
B. Install azchitectural precast concrete units plumb, level, and in aligmment. I'rovide
' temporazy supports and bracing as required to maintain position, stability, and alignment
as uruts aze being permanently connected.
1. Maintain horizontal and vertical joint alignment and uniform joint width as
' erection progresses.
2. Remove projecting hoisting devices and cement-grout fill recessed hoisting
devices.
 C. Anchor architectural precast concrete units in position by bolting, welding, grouting,or as
otherwise indicated.Remove temporary shims, wedges, and spacers as soon as possible
' after anchoring and grouting are completed.
D. Welding:Perform welding in compliance with AWS D1.1 and AWS D1.4,with qualified
welders.
' 1. Protect azchitectural precast concrete units and bearing pads from damage by field
welding or cutting operations and provide noncombustible shields as required.
2. Repair damaged steel surfaces by cleaning and applying a coat of galvanizing repair
' paint to galvanized surfaces.
3. Repair damaged steel surfaces by cleaning and repairing damaged painted surfaces.
 E. At bolted connections use lock washers or other acceptable means to prevent loosening of
nuts.
F. Grouting Connections:Grout connections where required or indicated. Retain grout in
' place until hard enough to support itself. Pack spaces with stiff grout material, tamping
until voids aze completely filled. Place grout to finish smooth, plumb, and level with
adjacent concrete surfaces.Keep grouted joints damp for not less than 24 hours after initial
, set. Promptly remove grout material from exposed surfaces before it hardens.
03450- 9
HENNEPIN COUNTY Orono Salt StoraQe
' March 22,2002 Project No.:0031569 Contract No.:0751R2
