Eclectic Spalon
Plumbing
Plan No.PLB1102-00114
Page 2
February 25, 2411
3. The plans show that the existing 3-inch stack will serve the two pedicure spas, the two shampoo sinks, the
four 2-inch floor drains, the two hand sinks, the four lavatories, the mop sink, and the two water closets.
These fixtures account for a total of thirty-seven drainage fixture units, which is more than is allowed for a 3-
inch stack(see Minnesota Rules, part 4715.2310, subpart 3).Verify that the 3-inch stack is increased to 4
inches in size where the final fixture connects to it or permanently remove one of the fixtures from service.
4. Changes in direction in drainage piping must be made by appropriate use of wyes and bends. Sanitary tees
are not allowed where the direction of flow changes from either vertical to horizontal or horizontal to
horizontal(see Minnesota Rules,part 4715.2410).
5. Verify that every building sewer is served by a full-sized vent stack(3-inch minimum)that is continuous in
size from its base to its terminal(see Minnesota Rules, part 4715.2520, subpart 1).
6. It is recommended that a cleanout be provided where new waste and vent piping connects with existing
plumbing to facilitate required testing of the new installation.
7. Cleanouts sha11 be of the same nominal size as the pipes they serve up to 4 inches in size(see Minnesota
Rules, part 4715.1010).A cleanout must be installed where there is an increase in pipe size from 2 inches to
3 inches and from 3 inches to 4 inches.
8. Based on a maximum developed length of pipe of 20 feet and a building water pressure at the meter between
46 and 60 psi, and using Minnesota Rules,part 4715.3800:
a. The building supply line must be at least 1 inch in size between the water meter and the cold water
distribution branch serving the mop sink/existing back-to-back restrooms.
b. The hot water distribution branch serving the two pedicure spas, the two shampoo sinks, the two
lavatories, the two hand sinks, and the mop sink must be at least 1 inch in size.
9. Please note the following requirements for the pedicure spas:
a. Pedicure spas and their installation must comply with ASME/ANSI Standard A 112.19.7. If the pedicure
spas do not meet this standard, they cannot be installed.
b. Pedicure spas must discharge by gravity to the sanitary sewer through a direct connection.Pumped
discharges to a floor drain or a receptor are not allowed.
c. The drain branch from each pedicure spa must be trapped and individually vented in accordance with
Minnesota Rules,part 4715.2620, subpart 4.
d. If the water supply connections to the equipment have submerged inlets, or inlets below the spill line of
the fixture or equipment, each connection must be provided with an approved backflow preventer or
backflow preventer assembly as specified in Minnesota Rules, part 4715.2000 and part 4715.2010.
10. Please note the following requirements for the shampoo sinks:
a. Adjustable tailpiece sink systems must comply with ASME Sta.ndard A112.19.12-2006. A water supply line to a spray/rinse hose on a shampoo sink shall be protected against backflow by the
use of an in-line vacuum breaker(see Minnesota Rules, part 4715.2110).
11. Shutoff valves shall be installed which permit the water supply to all equipment in each sepazate room or to
each individual fixture to be shut off without interference with the water supply to any other room or portion
of the building(see Minnesota Rules,part 4715.1800, subpart 6).
