Formal approval will be requested in <br />November, following the public comment period. <br />Staff Recommendation: Planning Department Staff recommends authorization of the <br />document to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Council. <br />Background <br />The City officially started the development of the 2040 Comprehensive Plan Update in March <br />2017 with the appointment of thirteen members (and one alternate) of the community to <br />advise staff. The members are: <br />Jennifer Smiley, Resident <br />Meg Cowden, Resident <br />Chad Olson, Planning Commission <br />Candice Nadler, Resident <br />Paul Pesek, Park Commission <br />Jon Schwingler, Planning Commission <br />Bob Erickson, Resident <br />Dennis Libby, Resident <br />Phil Lusardi, Resident <br />John Morast, Resident <br />Jan Berg, Park Commission <br />Rick Meyers, Park Commission (Alternate) <br />Dennis Walsh, Mayor <br />Richard Crosby, Councilmember <br />Since April 2017, this Committee met monthly and reviewed specific chapters of the draft plan, <br />and proposed changes to the document. The meeting information and agendas are posted on <br />the city's website for public consumption. <br />The Committee operated under three primary goals: <br />1. Retain rural character and natural resource protection policies established in <br />previous plans <br />
