NOTCH
ENGINEERING
1250 d,Mi n Minnesota
Drive
CO. Mound,Minnesota 55364 n
(612)472-5566 J
January 27 , 1993
Mr. Lyle Oman, Building Official
City of Orono "JAN 29 19
1335 South Brown Road
Crystal Bay, Minnesota 55323
Re : Mr . dike Modares Residence
2480 Old Beach Road
Orono , Minnesota
Mr . Oman,
Notch Engineering Co . made a field observation at the above
referenced residence on January 26 , 1993 in order to determine
what corrections were required on the modified existing roof
trusses over the new family room. The bottom 2x4 chord of the
roof trusses was changed from a horizontal member to a scissors
type member. Orientated Strand Board (OSB) gussets were added
to one side of the 2x4 truss members .
A metal truss connector should be added at the midspan
intersection of the two 2x4 bottom chord members on the side
opposite the OSB gussets with 1/2" plywood gussets added to the
same side of the truss . The plywood gusset at the peak should
be one piece the full truss depth and 8 ' -0" long centered on
the peak. The plywood gussets at the bearing end of the
trusses should be one piece the full truss depth and 3 ' -0"
long . The metal truss connectors should be capable of
developing 2 . 65 kips of tensile force . The plywood gussets
should be nailed with 8d nails @ 2" o.c . and glued with
construction adhesive .
If you have any questions or comments on this correction please
feel free to contact me .
Sincerely yours ,
AZ'2 Q/ G• ;'ZO
Thomas E.
