MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING HELD AUGUST 15, 1984. PAGE 1 <br /> ATTENDANCE 7 :30 PM The Orono Council met on the above date with the <br /> following members present : Mayor Butler, Council- <br /> members Adams and Frahm. Councilmember Grabek <br /> _ arrived at . 7 : 40 p.m. City Administrator Benson <br /> arrived at 7 : 40 p.m. City Engineer Olson, Septic <br /> System Inspector Gaffron, Zoning Administrator <br /> Mabusth, Building Official Jacobs , Public Works <br /> Coordinator Gerhardson, and Recorder Sutton <br /> represented the City staff . <br /> CRYSTAL BAY SEWER <br /> DISCUSSION This special Council meeting was held to meet with the <br /> neighbors to get their ideas on maintaining existing <br /> on-site septic systems versus municipal sewers . <br /> Septic System Inspector Gaffron used a slide show to <br /> illustrate where the septic problems are within the <br /> Crystal Bay area. <br /> Alex Jentilucci of 1295 Briar Street stated that he <br /> isn' t opposed to municipal sewer. Jentilucci stated <br /> �� 4; , :.. -• that if the problems aren' t solved, that the residents <br /> will have a hard time getting their money out of the <br /> �`� � I, j �.. ,�,� , homes because of the septic problems . <br /> F,v ��� ,:; ;�;��-, <br /> LaDean McWilliams of 1130 Willow Drive asked why the <br /> ,.,. ; . . -._ new development west of the Art Center isn ' t included <br /> �: , .., _ - �'' in this sewer pro ject. <br /> Mayor Butler stated that the development will not have <br /> sewer and that each residential pad will be able to <br /> hold a primary and alternate drainfield site. Butler <br /> stated that the City has been trying to get federal <br /> funding for this sewer project and this type of funding <br /> is not available. <br /> City Engineer Jim Olson stated that it is estimated to <br /> cost one million dollars for this proposed sewer <br /> project which includes the installation of the <br /> sanitary sewer pipes and the lift station. Olson <br /> stated that there are 79 units and would cost each unit <br /> approximately $12 ,230 plus $1,100 to hookup to the <br /> sewer in 1984 . Olson noted that in 1985 the cost of <br /> the sewer project will probably go up therefore <br /> raising the cost to each homeowner. Olsonstated that <br /> easements would have to be acquired for portions of the <br /> construction. <br /> LaDean McWilliams of 1130 Willow Drive asked why the <br /> City wasn' tincluding more residentswhich would bring <br /> the cost down for each homeowner here in Crystal Bay. <br /> City Engineer Olson stated that it may or may not bring <br /> the cost down. <br />
