• <br />ORONO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br />MINUTES FOR JANUARY 8, 2001 <br />ROLL <br />The Council met on the above - mentioned date with the following members present: exiting <br />Mayor Gabriel Jabbour and Council Member Charles Kelley, Mayor Barbara Peterson, <br />Council Members Jim White, Jay Nygard, Richard Flint, and Bob Sansevere. Representing <br />staff were City Administrator Ron Moorse, Planning Director Michael Gaffron, Zoning <br />Administrator Paul Weinberger, City Engineer Tom Kellogg, Public Services Director Greg <br />Gappa, and Recorder Alissa Winternheimer. City Attorney Tom Barrett was absent. <br />Mayor Jabbour called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. <br />Mayor Jabbour thanked everyone who attended the reception and publicly thanked Mr. <br />Carlson for his gift of land to the City of Orono. Kelley stated that he had been involved in <br />city government for 20 years and was looking forward to continued involvement with the <br />City. <br />Mayor Jabbour passed the gavel to Mayor -elect Barbara Peterson. <br />OATH OF OFFICE <br />• Moorse administered the Oath of Office to Mayor -elect Peterson, Council members -elect <br />Jay Nygard, and Jim White. <br />RECOGNITION <br />Mayor Peterson welcomed the new council members and thanked Mayor Jabbour and <br />Council Member Kelley for their dedicated service to the City. She also thanked their <br />spouses for supporting them through all of the late meetings and other obligations of their <br />positions. She then invited comments from members of the community and members of the <br />Council. <br />Tom Crosby stated that he was impressed with the knowledge and attention Gabriel Jabbour <br />gave both small and large items as the Mayor of Orono. He also stated that Mayor Jabbour <br />was willing to tackle issues for the good of the City with which other politicians might not <br />have bothered such as the Dakota Line and the Highway 12 bypass. <br />Lyle Kasprick thanked Mayor Jabbour for the time and effort he devoted to the community. <br />Andrew McDermott thanked Mayor Jabbour for his leadership in helping the City obtain a <br />19 acre natural area in Saga Hill, a 9 acre park in Saga Hill, and increasing their parkland in <br />n <br />
