/-
To: Orono City Council
From: Todd & Marie Ziesmer
3440 Baysida Road
RE: Stubbs Bay Sewer Project
1
FE8 2 2 1991
Dear Mayor Peterson & Council Members,
When we burn our home 2 years ago along the proposed Stubbs Bay sewer route, wo
were told that a decision would be make soon about the sewer. At that time wo
Installed a holding tank as a temporary means tor waste removal. For 2 years now,
we have had the tank pumped out every 2 to 3 weeks at $80 per pumping. This
amounts to approximately $3300 that has been paid while waiting tor a decision on
the sewer. We have incorporated every water conserva*‘”in technique possible: use a
laundromat, take ’army showers, wash dishes by hand (even though we have a
dishwasher), flush toilets only when necessary and more as we think of them.
As you can imagine, this has not been easy tor us. And we are concerned because we
have been told that the Stubbs Bay sewer is not one of the major issues that the
coundl is handling at this time. We realize that this has not been an easy situation
with the negative attitude of the majority of our neighbors. We have done what we
couid to convince some neighbors of the importance of the sewer, and we even met
with Mike Gaffron, Mark Bemhardson and 3 other interested neighbors to get more
information and strategies to convince those opposed. This meeting left us even more
concerned that the sewer woni come through tor quite a while yet, not without sonte
financial help from the city or some type of subsidy from the state.
The main reason for this letter is to ask for a grace period tor us in the evem that
the sewer does come through. We would like to have a septic system Installed on our
property this spring. We have estimates from $8,000 to $10,000 tor this job to be .
completed to city specilications. We would like to take care of this as soon as
possible, as we are expecting our second child this summer. This will make the
expense and Inconveniencas even more diflicuit to live with. We are asking tor a 15
to 20 year grace period so that we can get the septic system paid off before we
would have to begin paying tor the sewer.
Please seriously consktar our request and call us at f478-8364 if you have any
questions. We would appredate your prompt attention In dealing with this matter.
Sincerely,
A ■/z
