The Callahans have :d the building had suffered damages during the May,
1998 storm that they have requested to repair b pplying for a building permit. The building permit was
received on October 23, 2000. Due to the follol-ina observations the building permit was denied:
1. Repair to the existing structure ;ould resire replacement of the entire building. The intent is to
save the concrete slab. A final determinrion regarding the structural integrity of the slab could
not be made until the structure is remo-.
2. The entire roof and rafters have rotted asd shingles are damaged or missing.
3. Based on the existing condition of the building, the structure has extended beyond its useful life
and the rotting of the corner posts and zntire roof would require full replacement absen[ any
. damage that may have resulted from th _torm.
4. The building is located approximately .' from the west property line.
5. The building is located approximately 1' from the existing shoreline of Lake Minnetonka.
6. The building is 12.5' X 7.6' in area (9 s.f_).
The City of Orono had established an interim BZ:i'.3ing Permit Procedure for properties damaged during
the storms in the Spring of 1998. A cop}'of the memo establishing the interim permit procedures has been
a[tached. Structures «•ith 75% or less damaQe a-ere permitted to be replaced without meeting zoning
standards (setbacks, hardcover, etc.) Bu[ did require a building permit review. The gazebo building
owned by the Callahan's would require, as h en proposed, the replacement of the entire structure
which is beyond the 75% damage that would ha-e been permitted under the interim permit procedures.
