T0: City Council
FROM: James Cosby, City Administrator
DATE: March l, 1974
SUBJECT: Council Meeting of March 4 , 1974
We will be having our regular 6 : 30 P.M. work session on Monday,
March 4 , 1974. At this time, Dexter Marston would like to go over
his items on the agenda with you due to the fact that he must attend
the Council meeting in Minnetrista.
The first item that is being added to the agenda is a motion for the
Council to accept the petition from Hackberry requesting water lines
be put in at the same time as the sewer lines are due to be put in
the ground in Hackberry. If it is the Council' s desire to try to
coordinate those two projects into one , we will begin immediate
negotiations with Long Lake in an attempt to get on their water system
and work with Bernie Mittelsteadt to insure that the proper final
plans and specifications can be drawn up.
The second additional item concerns two letters for membership on
the Orono Planning Commission. On the agenda above you will have a
letter of resignation from Mr. Bradley Hays, which created the
vacancy on the commission.
The third item on the new agenda is my recommendation for the individual
to be hired as the finance clerk for the City of Orono. During the
budget work sessions in 1973, the Council agreed to make this a full-time
position. The current employee only works in the office three days
a week. There is more than sufficient work to justify making this a
full-time position and the current employee does not wish to be
full-time. Therefore, we have advertised and interviewed eight
people and it is my recommendation that Mrs. Knutson be hired as the
new finance clerk for the City of Orono at a salary of $6 ,500 a
year. With this position becoming full-time, it is my intention to
move water and sewer billing to the finance department before the
end of this year.
The final item on the agenda is a resolution declaring the roads in
the City upon which weight limitations will be placed from March 15
through May 15, 1974. These are the normal weight restrictions that
we use during the spring breakup and by placing these weight limits,
we are able to avert the heavier traffic from our more fragile road
networks.
