• <br />MINUTES OF THE <br />ORONO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br />Monday, February 23, 2004 <br />7:00 o'clock p.m. <br />ROLL <br />The Council met on the above mentioned date with the following members present: Mayor Barbara <br />Peterson; Council members Jim White, Jim Murphy, Lili McMillan, and Bob Sansevere; City <br />Attorney Thomas Barrett; Representing staff were City Administrator Ron Moorse, Planning <br />Director Mike Gaffron, Planner Melanie Curtis, City Engineer Tom Kellogg, Public Service <br />Director Greg Gappa, and Recorder Kristi Anderson. <br />Mayor Peterson called the meeting to order at 7:02 P.M <br />CONSENT AGENDA <br />1. Approve /Amend <br />Items #7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17 were added to the Consent Agenda. <br />Murphy moved, McMillan seconded, to approve the Consent Agenda as amended. Vote: Ayes <br />5, Nays 0. <br />RECOGNITION — item #2 was moved following item #4 <br />3. EXCELSIOR FIRE CHIEF, MARK DUCHARME, AND LONG LAKE FIRE <br />• ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER, TONY ROE — INTRODUCTION OF NEW FIRE <br />FIGHTERS FOR THE NAVARRE FIRE STATION <br />is <br />Chief DuCharme introduced the new Navarre Fire Fighters, four of which were present: Trevor <br />McCanhes, Kevin S. Madeja, John Hall, and Cody Farley. While Kathy Wiest, Matt Roscoe, Adam <br />Bolander, and Cherrise Lewendowski were in training and unavailable this evening. <br />Chief DuCharme stated that the initial group of 12 firefighters would be ready by June or July 1" <br />2004. He added that the second half of the group would be starting training shortly. In addition, he <br />noted that Excelsior had answered a handful of calls in the Navarre area. <br />Roe commented that the Fire Station is coming along well with a punch list walk thru scheduled for <br />Wed. February 25, 2004. <br />Mayor Peterson shook hands with the Navarre Fire Fighters and thanked them for their <br />commitment. <br />While he acknowledged that some people thought that Orono could not recruit a staff committed to <br />the new Fire Station in such a short time, Sansevere commended these fire fighters for their service <br />to Navarre. <br />Murphy commented that these fire fighters represent the vanguard of a grand experiment of joint <br />cooperation entered into by three neighboring communities, Orono, Long Lake, and Excelsior. He <br />indicated that the new fire truck was outside and a beautiful sight for all to see. <br />PAGE 1 of 14 <br />D <br />
