� � J <br /> _ Clt� of ORONO <br /> � RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br /> ,- Q� <br /> � NO. 2419 <br /> • � • • <br /> A JOINT RESOLUTION OF THE CITIES OF ORONO <br /> ' AND LONG LARE DECLARING THE NEED FOR <br />' IMPROVED HIGHWAY TR�FFIC REGOLATION ALONG <br /> PORTIONS OF II.S. TRIINR HIGHWAY 12 <br /> WHEItEAS, the Cities of Orono and Long lake are concerned <br /> with the health , safety and welfare of their citizens; and <br /> WHEREAS , U.S. Trunk Highway 12 is a major arterial <br /> highway which , daily, carries 15, 00P! to 17, 000 cars through <br /> portions of both cities from the area of Lindawood Lane (on the <br /> east) to County Road 6 (on the west) ; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Long Lake has in recent years <br /> � experienced substantial residential , commercial and industrial <br /> development along U.S. Trunk Highway 12 and will continue to <br /> experience more in the near future, which development has and <br /> , will impact heavily upon the traffic upon said highway; and <br /> WHEREAS, The City of Orono is presently undergoing a <br /> comprehensive study which may result in changing the zoning and <br /> land use structure of approximately 604! acres of land along U.S. <br /> Trunk Highway 12 from low density single family residential to a <br /> mixture of inedium density residential, commercial and light <br /> industrial uses (said study being known as the "Highway 12 <br /> Corridor Study" ) ; and <br /> � � WHEREAS , the cities are concerned with the safe and <br /> reasonable traffic flows within their jurisdictional limits due <br /> to serious and dangerous flaws in traffic regulation along U.S. <br /> Truck Highway 12 , such as the lack of a semaphore at its <br /> intersection with Willow Drive; <br /> NOW, TH�RSF'ORS, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of <br /> Orono and Long Lake declare that there is a need for increased <br /> traffic regulation, reduced speed and increased levels of caution , <br /> along U.S. Trunk Highway 12 from Lindawood Lane to County Road 6, <br /> east and west . <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Highway 12 and Willow Drive <br /> • is declared a dangerous intersection in need of a permanent <br /> semaphore. <br />
