RESOLUTION NO. A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE HENNEPIN COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO ERECT TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES AND NO PARKING SIGNS ALONG COUNTY ROAD 51 - NORTH SHORE DRIVE WHEREAS, the City of Orono has for several years received complaints from neighborhood citizens concerning traffic hazards and parking conditions along a certain portion of North Shore Drive; and WHEREAS, part of the problem is caused by customers of the B-2 Lakeshore Business District parking on the highway right of way and interfering with the neighboring resident's use of their private property; and WHEREAS, part of the problem is caused by a 300 ft. unregulated, uncontrolled access to North Star Marina which access directly contributes to a traffic hazard by allowing uncontrolled ingress, egress and parking; and WHEREAS, part of the problem is a sharp curve on a hill just east of the above mentioned area which curve limits sight • distances and contributes to the traffic hazards created by the parking and access problems; and WHEREAS, despite years of requests by the City, the North Star Marina has not in and of itself made any attempt to correct the access problem on the marina property; and WHEREAS, the Hennepin County Department of Transportation is the responsible agency having jurisdiction to correct and/or alleviate the above mentioned problems; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Orono finds that the above noted problems are a public nuisance directly affecting the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Orono and the public which traverses this County highway, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Orono does hereby request the Hennepin County Department of Transportation to make the following physical improvements along County Road No. 51, North Shore Drive: 1. The installation of traffic control posts and/or curbing at locations shown on Exhibit B attached. 0
