VILLAGE OF CRONO <br />Regular fleeting of the Planning Commission, <br />March 17, 1969 <br />(The Planning Commission met on the above <br />date with the following members present: <br />Chairman Russell, Dongoskc, McCarthy, and <br />Councilman Stubbs. Absent: Bartic, Nicholls, <br />and O’Malley. <br />Larry llork presented plans for his proposed <br />two-story concrete-block dry dockage marina <br />building to be located on his commercial <br />property facing on Maxwell Bay, The proposed <br />building, to be used for boat storage, and <br />sales and repair of marine equipment and <br />snowmoblies, is in complete conformity <br />with existing Orono zoning and building <br />codes and represents the most modern <br />concept of marina design. Plans call for <br />a marine railway, indoor dry docking of <br />about ISO boats, ample parking (including <br />the roof), toilets, showers, and a pumping <br />station for boat holding tanks. Project <br />cost is estimated at $200,000. Finincing <br />has been arranged for; the necessary <br />dredging permit has been obtained. '*r. <br />^Hork desires to start construction immediately, <br />Chairman Russell read a memorandum summarizing* <br />tho problems involved in the control of boat­ <br />ing, marinas, launching ramps, snowmobiles, <br />and other uses of Lake ^’innetonka. He <br />quoted a letter from Mr. Mibbert Hill in <br />v/hich Mr. Hill mentioned that a recent <br />study of Klomath Lake, Oreoon, showed that <br />the top inch of Lake bottoa sediments <br />contained the equivalent of 60 years annual <br />addition of algae nutrients, and suggested <br />t power boats should nrobably be limited <br />to deep areas of the lake because of the <br />very serious pollution effect resulting from <br />this operation in shallow water. <br />Mr. Russell suggested that a tentative <br />standard for marina and launching ramp <br />location and power boat operations might <br />be based on the nine-foot depth contours <br />shown on the Army Engineer’s c’nrt. of Lake <br />Minnetonka. He also stressed the importance <br />of nof.'c as a public nuisance and urged <br />study of possible measuring devices and <br />standards to permit adoption of an enforceable <br />noise control regulation.
