ORONO PARK Ct�1t�IM�SSIUN MEETING <br /> MINUTES FUR JULY 7, 1997 <br /> ATTENDANCE <br /> The Park Commission met an the abave mentioned date with the foliowing members <br /> present: Chair Susan t�Vilson, Commissioners Sherokee Ilse, Andrew McDermatt, Jarnes <br /> White(who arrived a# 7:4a}, and David Bea1. Van Erickson and Peter VVelles were <br /> absent. Representing Staff were Pubtic Service Director Greg Gappa, City Planner <br /> Elizabeth Van�ornmeren, and Recorder Sherry Frost. Chair Wilson calied the meeting to <br /> order at 7:20 p.m. <br /> (#1)APPRUVAL O�'MINUTES OF'JU1tiE 2, 1�97 MEETING <br /> Wilson noted that the Cammission decided not to meet earlier on site for this meeting as <br /> indi�ated in the 7une minutes to�iscuss the sketch plan bein$considered far praperty on <br /> Saga Hill due to changes being considereti for th�sketch pt�n. <br /> Beal maveci, McDermott seconded, to approve the Minutes of the Park Commission <br /> Meeting of 3une 2, 1997. Vote: Ayes 4, Nays 0. <br /> (Item #2 #"ollows �tem #6.) <br /> (#6) TREE PRESERVATION PQLICY <br /> Beai repvrted that a meeting of the sub-committee was hetd resulting in a broad based <br /> policy. Points 1 through 5 will be disc�ssed with Council and the policy will be reviewed <br /> by the Planning Commission for a recommendation. The policy is directed at developers <br /> with emphasis ort carnmercial propert�es. BeaI said the committee recognized the rights of <br /> private praperty owners and has recoznmended a brochure be pravided relati�g the <br /> philasophy of Orono regarding preservation of its rural them�e. Gaffrcm had mentioned at <br /> thai meeting concern for "taking" of tand. The policy will be reviewed by Council at their <br /> July ]4 meeting. <br /> Wilson indicated that a couple members of the Planning and Park Commissions�ould <br /> review with Staff and passibly the consulta�rt ta grovide the details af the policy. Wiison <br /> indicated that the poti�cy as cunently presented is a broad parameter and the Mayor has <br /> asked the policy to move forward. <br /> Beal asked Staff if de�ails could be developed once Coancil received the broad policy.
