ORONO PARK COMMISSION MEETING <br /> MINUTES FOR JANUARY 6, 1997 <br /> ATTENDANCE <br /> The Park Commission met on the above mentioned date with the following members <br /> present: Acting Chair Susan Wilson, Andrew McDermott, Sherokee Ilse, James White, <br /> and David Beal. Richard Flint was absent. Representing Staff were Public Works <br /> Director John Gerhardson, Public Services Director Greg Gappa, and Recorder Sherry <br /> Frost. Acting Chair VVilson called the meeting to order at 7:23 p.m. <br /> (#1) APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF NOVEMBER 4, 1996 AND DECEMBER 2, <br /> 1996 MEETINGS <br /> The date and amount of Park Dedication Fund noted on page 2 was questioned. No <br /> changes were made at this time. Gerhardson will check for accuracy of information. <br /> Beal moved, McDermatt secanded, to approve the Minutes of the November 4, 1996 <br /> Park Commission Meeting. Vote: Ayes 4, Nays 0. (White was not present at this time.) <br /> Wilson moved, McDermott seconded, to approve the Minutes of the December 2, 1996 <br /> Meeting of the Park Commission. Vate: Ayes 4, Nays 0. <br /> (#lA) SAGA HILL <br /> Saga Hill property owners, Steven and Joan Valek of 4720 Tonkaview Lane, along with <br /> Chris Morgard, were present to express concerns regarding access to the park property. <br /> The Valek's property is adjacent to the Saga Hill park land, and they were the previous <br /> owners of the 9 acre tax farfeit parcel. Vatek said there were issues that were still needing <br /> resalutian and reported their unhappiness with having lost the 9 acre parcel. Valek said he <br /> understc�ad the aecess issue to the park land will be on the February 3 agenda of th�Park <br /> Commission but asked to relay infarmation relating to it prior to that meeting. Wilson <br /> asked him if the information related to the access issue. Valek said it primarily related to <br /> that issue but also to the fact of his being an adjacent property owner. <br /> Valek asked what the restrictions were on the park land property noting it was promoted <br /> as a nature trail and open space. He also mentioned the City described it as open space in <br /> their application for a grant from the DNR. Valek also voiced concern with the use of the <br /> park land by snowmobilers and questioned whether that use is allowed and will be in the <br /> future. He asked what responsibility the City has to police the park land and prevent <br /> nuisances especially during the night time hours. He noted the snowmobilers were going <br /> throu�h his property to gain access to the park land which relates to the access issue. <br /> , i <br />
