ORONO PARK COMMISSION - August 4, 1987 <br /> ATTENDANCE <br /> Bruce Kokal, Bob Kost. Lee Erger, Mariann Kienzler, Les Kelley, <br /> and Tom Casey were present. John Ge�hardson fram the Orono <br /> City staff was present. Virginia Sweatt and Phil Bradley were <br /> absent. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> Minutes from the August meeting were approved with attendence <br /> being amended to include Tom. Casey. <br /> FUNDS FROM THE ORONO LIONS CLTJB <br /> Mike Ellis a representative from the Orono Lions Club attended <br /> the meeting. Mr. Ellis made lm ow to the members of the Commission <br /> that the Lions Club would like to donate funds to the Parks of <br /> Orono. A list of park improvements will be sent to the Lions <br /> Club so that they may choose how the funds can be used. <br /> SUNI�IIT PARK SWIM BEACH PARKING PROBLEM <br /> A private individual living near the Summit Park Swim Beach area <br /> sent a complaint letter to the City. The letter stated that <br /> parking in this area has increased and is creating a great deal <br /> of noise and complications. The individual stated also that the <br /> area should have signs (no parking) posted, or even having the <br /> parking lot enlarged. John Gerhardson will enclose sketch of the <br /> additional parking space for discussion at the next meeting. <br /> CASCO SWIM BEACH GATE <br /> A property owner has recommended that a gate be put up that would <br /> fascilitate closing at the designated time. John Gerhardson will <br /> provide the design plans. <br /> ON-GOING AGENDA <br /> Park inspections have not been completed for this year. Members <br /> of the Commission are to visit the three swimming areas before <br /> the next meeting. <br /> Hackberry Park - The City Council warmly recieved the revised plans <br /> for the skating area. <br /> Livingston Tower Park - Plans have been reviewed and approved. <br /> Mariann Kienzler has a m eeting scheduled with the head of the <br /> sculpture department of the Minnesota Art Center to discuss <br /> the Centers participation. <br /> Park promotions- Virginia Sweatt made arrangements with the PIONEER <br /> to have articles on the Orono Parks included as a regular item. <br /> Mariann Kienzler volunteered to write various articles for the paper. <br /> Comprehensive Plan - Bike-Hike system. Information from the previously <br /> discussed plans are inclosed. John Gerhardson will be bringing <br /> the DNR bike-hike trail map. <br /> Parks Use Survey - John Gerhardson will bring the old survey for <br /> discussion at the next meeting. <br /> ADJOURNMENT <br /> The meeting was adjourned at 9:OOpm. September lst is the next <br /> scheduled meeting. <br />
