ORONO PARR COMMISSION, MARCH 2, 1987 <br /> ATTENDANCE <br /> Terry Morse, Bruce Kokal, Mariann Kienzler, Les Kelley, Lee Erger <br /> and Phil Bradley were present. John Gerhardson from the Orono <br /> City staff was also present. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> Minutes from the February 2, 1987 Park Commission meeting were <br /> approved. <br /> GREENWAY SOCIETY <br /> Surrey Gage, Organizer of the Greenway Society, was invited and <br /> present at the meeting. The Society' s philosophy, goals , <br /> operational methods and structure were covered in his <br /> presentation. There are currently no verified members from whom <br /> would serve as resources to project sponsored by the City, <br /> however, he does know of several who have expressed an interest. <br /> HACRBERRY PARK SRATING PARR <br /> Preliminary designs for the proposed skating rink were presented <br /> by John Gerhardson and reviewed by the Commission. Two designs <br /> were reviewed. The first was a basic rectangular design, the <br /> second had an irregular rounded extension of one corner , <br /> complimenting the contours of the land. The Commission suggested <br /> that another irregular corner by included, again to compliment the <br /> land as well as for making the rink less attractive for hockey <br /> games. <br /> LIVINGSTON TOWER PARK <br /> Park Sculpture: Mariann Kienzler completed some library research <br /> and provided books/pictures for review by the Commission. After a <br /> brief review, there was concensus that the sculpture design should <br /> resemble and/or serve as a bird bath whe completed. <br /> John Gerhardson will provide mounting requirements, and less <br /> Kelley will provide pictures/design examples of ornate bird baths <br /> of the April 6 meeting. Following these presentations the <br /> Commission will begin describing requirements, to be used in a <br /> proposal to the Art Center. <br /> COMPREHENSIVE PLAN REVIEW <br /> Terry Morse reviewed the Park and Open Space Goals and Polices <br /> section of the Comprehensive Plan. Mariann Kienzler is to review <br /> the Park and Open Space Plan at the April 6 meeting. <br /> ADJOURNMENT <br /> Meeting was adjourned at 9 : 00 p.m. The next Park Commission <br /> meeting is scheduled for April 6th, 1987, at 7:00 p.m. <br /> 1 <br />
