ORONO PARR COMMISSION - SEPTEMBER 16, 1986 6:30 P.M.
The Orono Park Commission met on the above date with
the following members present: Les Kelley, Virginia Sweatt, Phil
Bradley, Terry Morse, Barb Peterson, Mariann Kienzler and Bob
Kost. Absent was Lee Erger.
The meeting began with an inspection of the park area
adjacent to the watertower in Navarre. The benches have been
installed and the members were requested to advise staff on ideas
for planting of the area and to think of a name for the area.
The Commission continued their inspection to Hackberry
Park to review and recommend a location at Hackberry Park for a
recreational skating rink as per a petition received by the City.
With the inspection completed, the members met back at
the Council Chambers to discuss the inspection and other matters
on the agenda. The first item on the agenda was the Park
Commission chair position recently vacated by Barb Peterson.
Kelley moved, Kienzler seconded, to nominate Terry
Morse as chairman, all members present voted to recommend to the
Orono Council that Terry Morse be appointed as chair of the park
Commission effective September 22, 1986.
The next item on the agenda was the skating rink
request for Hackberry Park. All members agreed that the best
location was the northwest corner of the park. It was moved by
Bradley, seconded by Kelley, to perform a minor feasibility of
costs to construct a 65' x 140' recreational skating rink and to
construct a well. Once the costs have been submitted, the Park
Commission will conduct a public hearing to determine the impact
on the neighborhood.
The next item on the agenda was a question by members
regarding the status of the Old Stubbs Bay School. The members
requested Gerhardson to report back to the Commission at the next
meeting as to the status of the old school.
Kelley moved, Kost seconded, to adjorn at 8 :15 p.m.
Next meeting will be October 7 , 1986, 7 :00 p.m.
