- 1 '1� <br /> � <br /> CITY OF ORONO <br /> PARK COMMISSION <br /> The regular meeting of the Orono Park Commission was held on Jan . 6 , 1981 . <br /> The following members were present : ATTENDANCE <br /> Watson , Tomlinson , Sweatt , and Kelley . <br /> Also attending was Mary Butler, member <br /> of the Orono City Council . <br /> The minutes of the December meeting were MINUTES <br /> read and approved . <br /> Dick Benson sent Debbie P�lassengale a letter LETTER OF THANKS <br /> of thanks for her service on the Park Commi - <br /> ssion and for work on her study of park use . <br /> The commission has stated it ' s desire to use CASCO PARK CIRCLE <br /> block grant funds for tree planting in Casco <br /> Circle Park . We need to spend some of the <br /> fund or it may be realocated or rescinded by <br /> the block grant authority . Mary Butler <br /> suggested that an ice rink would be a great <br /> neighborhood attraction . There is a hydrant <br /> nearby and an earth berm would eliminate need <br /> for boards . There was a motion by Lee Tomlinson , <br /> seconded by Les Kelley , to look into the possib- <br /> ility of using some of the remaining block grant <br /> funds for a skating rink at Casco Point. ( passed ) <br /> The grant application was submitted by the Orono BICYCLE SAFETY <br /> Police Department for the bicycle safety program . <br /> Auxiliary police could be used off hours in a <br /> rodeo type program. A squad car could be used <br /> adjacent to the Luce Line to check bikes and <br /> offer bike safety information . We should hear <br /> by Jan . 15th , if it is accepted . <br /> The Orono shcool district Community Services ICE SKATING WARMING HOUSE <br /> have proposed providing an ice skating warm- <br /> ing house and attendent at the rink near the <br /> schools . Cost to Orono would be about $200 . 00 <br /> per year. Lee Tomlinson made a motion that the <br /> City of Orono participate in the program <br /> through Community Services , Orono School District . <br /> Les Kelley seconded and the motion passed . <br /> John Gerhardson had a meeting with a represen- ENLARGEMENT OF BEDERWOOD <br /> tative of the DNR and found no objection to <br /> filling in the ditch about 50 feet toward the <br /> Luce Line to increase the size of the baseball <br /> diamond next spring . <br />
