c `�'"14 ' <br /> CITY OF ORONO <br /> � PARK COMMISSION <br /> The regular meeting of the Orono Park Commission was held on December <br /> 2 , 1980 . <br /> The following mernbers were present : ATTENDANCE <br /> Tomlinson , Kelley , Massengale , Peterson <br /> and Sweatt . <br /> The minutes of the November meeting were MINUTES <br /> read and approved . <br /> Debby Massengale submitted a letter of RESIGNATION <br /> resignation due to her upcoming marriage . <br /> She will not be living in Orono . <br /> About $1 ,000 . 00 from the Block Grant Fund CASCO CIRCLE PARK <br /> is available for Casco Circle Park . <br /> Although no building or playground equip- <br /> ment can be placed on the property , plant- <br /> ing can be done especially shrubs which <br /> attract birds . There was a motion by Lee <br /> Tomlinson and seconded by Les Kelley , to <br /> recommend to the City Council that the <br /> remaining Block Grant Funds for Casco <br /> Circle Park be used for planting appropriate <br /> trees and shrubs in the park . The motion <br /> passed . <br /> We discussed tree planting throught the city , TREE PLANTING <br /> and will bring it up at future meetings . <br /> ` Grant funds are unlikely to be available for BICYCLE SAFETY PROGRAM <br /> a bicycle safety program without matching_ <br /> funding from the city . Some civic groups <br /> might be interested in donating a number of <br /> man hours which could be credited to the <br /> program as a portion of the matching funding . <br /> The grant application will be discussed with <br /> the city staff by Lee Tomlinson . <br /> Fill will be brought in next spring , if not BEDERWOOD PARK <br /> before , to Bederwood , to bring the baseball <br /> diamond up to regu1ation size . <br /> The backstop has been installed . It has ART CENTER <br /> been angled so that the Art Center windows <br /> will not be quite so susceptible to breakage , <br /> and so it also avoids some drainfields . . <br /> The Park Commission will compose a 1etter <br /> stating that the residents of Orono are to <br /> be given use of the Art Center playground <br /> although it is on private property .
