CITY OF ORONO <br /> PARK COMMISSIpN <br /> Rescheduled meeting of the Orono Park Commission held January 9, 1980. <br /> The Orono Park Com�nission met on the ATTENDANCE <br /> above date with the following members <br /> present: Chairman Tomlinson, Watson, <br /> Massengale and Goetten. Not present: <br /> Kelley, Peterson and Erger. Also in- <br /> vited to at�end from the City Council <br /> were membera Walter Massengale and Jo <br /> Ellen Hurr; representing Orono Co�rmlunity <br /> Education Services Toni Berglund, Direc- <br /> tor, and Phyllis Charlton, Advisory Board <br /> memb er. <br /> Tomlinson opened the meeting stating the SURVEY <br /> purpose of the survey-to help define the <br /> policy role ahead for the Park Commi.ssion. <br /> Toni Berglund mentioned that Comnnznity <br /> Services had taken a general survey last <br /> spring-3,000 household units in the Orono <br /> School District were polled with a 20� re- <br /> turn. Bergland said there was a real need <br /> for �laying fields, soccer fields, ice rinks, <br /> and more beach use. Debbie Massengale said <br /> the survey should be ready for review by the <br /> Park Commission within a few weeks. A spec- <br /> ial meeting will be called for this review. <br /> A few personal surveys will be done by Park <br /> Commission members to aid in our results. <br /> Masaengale stated that the City Council COUNCIL SUPPORT <br /> would be willing to support more services <br /> for the community if they were needed and <br /> would look to the Park Comm.ission to de- <br /> fine those needs. <br /> Berglund brought up a su�rnner recreational SUNII�'IER RECREATIONAL <br /> program tha� coirnnunity services is propos- PROGRAM <br /> ing encompassin.g the co�rmninities in the <br /> Orono School District-Medina, Long Lake, <br /> Minnetonka Beach, Independence, Maple <br /> Plain and Orono, headed by a Program Co- <br /> ordinator. Berglund is lookin� for mon- <br /> atary and general support from each of <br /> the six communities. �.nphasis is being <br /> placed on a day-time program that would <br /> ro�ate from city to city. A person <br /> from each of the communities supporting <br /> the program would be appointed to an <br /> advisory board. <br />
