PARK COMMISSION <br /> � <br /> Regular meeting of the Orono Park CoYrnnission f <br /> held August 1 , 1 978: ATTENDANCE <br /> The Orono Park Corrmlission met on the above <br /> date with the following members present: <br /> Chairman Tomlinson, Kelley, Watson and Peterson. <br /> Not present: Berglund, Erger, and Lathrop. i <br /> The minutes of the July meeting will be Qorrected MINIITES APPROVED <br /> to indicate that a ballfield is not considered <br /> appropriate for the Dayton property. Minutes were <br /> approved as corrected. <br /> A review of the corranissions tour and inspection TOUR REVIEWED <br /> of the High.wood access led to the following resolu- <br /> tions: <br /> Resolved, that because, fran a recreational <br /> point of view, the Highwood access is not <br /> suitable for any development, the park comm- <br /> ission recormiends that, aside from a general <br /> clean up, no funds be expended for recreational <br /> development of the property. <br /> Motion by Kelley, second by Watson, passed. <br /> '. lack of any progress in the development of BEDERWOOD PARK <br /> Bederwood Park was discussed. �ie cammission <br /> would like to see thi s si te developed thi s fall <br /> s o that it can be used next summer. Inspection <br /> by individual coYrnnissioners has determined that <br /> one Babe Rut�i baseball field is all that is feas- <br /> able on the site, and that it should be on the <br /> North (higher) portion of the park. Because park <br /> planning has been handled on an irregular basis <br /> the commission discussed and drew up the following <br /> resolutions regarding Bederwood as well as other <br /> parks: <br /> WHERE AS: Park development is imminent at <br /> Bederwood and Long Lake (Dayton) parks, as <br /> well as othsr properties and, <br /> WHERE AS: professional planning is essential <br /> for good park property utilization, <br /> THEREFORE; Be it resolved that the immediate <br /> hiring of a professional park planning con- <br /> sultant be reco�nended to the city council <br /> to be paid for from the park fund, pursuant <br /> to the city resolution r�675, dated April 12, <br /> 1976. <br /> Motion by Kelley, second by Watson, passed. <br /> " Lher discussion of park funding included the fact PARK FUNDING <br /> Ul1C�.l� as of August 1 , 1978, the park f�,ind has a balance <br /> of $76,800. Proper application of these funds will be <br /> a prame point of discussion at the September meeting of <br /> thi s c oxnmi s si on. <br /> � <br />
