< '.. � <br /> Regular Meeting of the Orono Park Commission, <br /> July 20, 1976 8:00 P.M. <br /> The Orono Park Commission met on the above <br /> date with the following members present: <br /> Chairman Lathrop, Peasley, Leipold, Kallestad <br /> and Hurr. Absent: Berglund, Oberhauser, <br /> Opheim and Panuska. Councilmember Mary Butler <br /> was also present. <br /> Minutes from the last meeting were not avail- MINUTES <br /> able. <br /> The Park Commission heard further discussion BEDERWOOD PARK <br /> about Bederwood Park. Gabriel Jabbour of <br /> Tonkawa Road spoke of the need for a park for <br /> kids in this area. Member Hurr presented <br /> figures from the school census concerning <br /> children to be served by an area park. There <br /> are 114 children 0-5 years and SSl children <br /> 6-16 years. <br /> Three families from Minnetonka Highlands (Gad- <br /> baw, Henninger and one other) feel a need for <br /> park space for their children. The Stubbs <br /> Bay Giants T-ball team has to play their <br /> games in Long Lake and could benefit by a <br /> neighborhood park. <br /> Mr. Kroll stated that he believes in parks, <br /> but feels that this is a poor location, too <br /> close to the Luce Line Trail and on a busy <br /> street. <br /> Nancy Kallestad moved, Leipold seconded, that JOINT DEMONSTRATION <br /> the Park Commission recommend to the Council PROJECT <br /> that they consider our participation in the <br /> Joint Demonstration Project as printed in an <br /> eight page report. Proposal was presented <br /> by Fern Kubalsky. Motion, Ayes (5) - Nays <br /> (0). <br /> Chairman Lathrop moved, Kallestad seconded, PARK COMMISSION <br /> to recommend to the Council a reduction of the MEMBERSHIP <br /> number of Park Commission members from nine to <br /> seven. Passed. Ayes (S) , Nays (0). <br /> The Park Commission is concerned about Dutch <br /> Elm disease and recommends a stepped-up pro- <br /> gram of inspection and removal. <br />
