970 Wayzata Blvd West vez-er d,
Wayzata, MN 55391
MAY 2 4 2010
May 23, 2010
CITY OF ORONO
Melanie Curtis
Planning and Zoning Coordinator
City of Orono
2750 Kelley Parkway
Orono, MN 55356
I'm writing to you to document the telephone conversation we had on
Tuesday, May 11th, 2010.
My first meeting with the City of Orono was 18 years ago in May or June of
1992 prior to purchasing the property at 970 Wayzata Blvd West. At that
time, I talked with one or two ladies who were working in the Orono City
offices and explained to them who I was and the business I was planning on
running from the location in question. They informed me that I was good to
go in regards to running Aaspen Tree Service from this location.
Several years later Elizabeth Van Zomeren notified me about parking a
commercial vehicle at my address and I met with her and showed her the
statute in the zoning that allowed me to do so. This statue was originally
shown tome by the person I talked to in the first meeting in 1992. I would
have thought that Ms. Van Zomeren would have made some documentation
of this meeting but apparently she did not.
After 18 years of doing business at this location you can imagine my
surprise when I received the "Illegal Home Occupation /Contractor
Business" letter from Orono. Many of the current statues were not in effect
when I moved to this location. I'm assuming that I am "grandfathered in"
with the zoning that was in effect in 1992.
Regards,
Reed Bales
Owner, Aaspen Tree Service, LLC
