0 <br /> MINUTES OF THE <br /> ORONO CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION <br /> Monday,June 13,2011 <br /> 5:30 p.m. <br /> Present: Mayor Lili McMillan, Council Members Cynthia Bremer, Doug Franchot,Aaron Printup, and Dave Rahn. <br /> Representing Staff were City Administrator Jessica Loftus, Assistant City Administrator of Long Term <br /> Strategic Planning Mike Gaffron, Finance Director Ron Olson, Police Chief Correy Farniok and City Clerk <br /> Lin Vee <br /> Council interviewed Kevin Landgraver for consideration as an Alternate Planning Commission Member. <br /> Council discussed the draft agreement with the Long Lake Fire Department for operation of the Navarre Fire <br /> Station. The agreement will be brought to the next Fire Commission Advisory meeting for further consideration. <br /> Loftus noted that a draft utility agreement with Long Lake is also moving forward and will be provided to Long <br /> Lake following final review by Orono staff. <br /> Franchot gave a report on the results of the survey conducted by the Lake Minnetonka Communications <br /> Commission regarding community interest and support for a potential fiber-optic network (FTTP) project that <br /> would serve all premises within the LMCC joint powers area. The governmentally-owned fiber optic network <br /> would provide capabilities for N, Internet and telephone and would compete with existing providers. It is the <br /> LMCC's goal to pay for any fiber network without using tax dollars. The next step for the LMCC task force is to <br /> develop a business plan, including financial, governance and operational plans,which would be brought to the <br /> cities for further discussion if there is substantial reason to believe the business model and financing options <br /> would be supported by member communities. <br /> Council discussed some of the challenges and options to be considered as staff prepares the 2012 draft budget <br /> scheduted for discussion at the August 8th work session. <br /> Chief Farniok outlined scheduling difficulties the police department has experienced and discussed potential <br /> solutions. <br /> There were no comments regarding Information Update items. <br /> The meeting closed at 6:59 p.m. <br /> ATTEST: <br /> ���? / ' <br /> �-�C�.�' �� �, � ��i'.�.�-�,.. <br /> Linda S.Vee, City Clerk Lili Tod McMillan, Mayor <br /> Page 1 of 1 <br />
