Per your request and our telephone conversation,the City expects the retaining walls being installed will be in
conformance with the approved survey dated 7-2-2014(copy attached) and verified by the required as-built survey. The
survey shows the walls lakeward of the average lakeshore setback will not exceed four-feet. If any walls end up being
constructed four-feet or higher lakeward of the average lakeshore setback line they will need to be reduced in height
prior to as-built and certificate of occupancy approval.

SEPTIC SYSTEM
All parts of the pool, including the apron or deck and equipment must be at least 20 feet from the drainfield and
10 feet from other parts of the septic system.
WETLANDS
Investigation into possible wetlands should be done early in the planning process as it will take several months
for a wetland delineation to be completed.
The City of Orono requires a 35 foot setback from a delineated wetland edge for all structures and hardcover.
All wetlands within 150 feet of a proposed project will require a wetland delineation. For assistance in
determining if there may be a wetland on the property, contact the Planning Department at 952-249-4620.
MINNEHAHA CREEK WATERSHED DISTRICT(MCWD� PERMITS
Your project may or may not trigger the Minnehaha Creek Watershed DistricYs (MCWD) permitting
requirements. Contact the MCWD directly at 952-471-0590 to discuss their permitting requirements.
FENCES AND DECKS
The City of Orono does not require a fence around a pool or hot tub. If you choose to erect a fence it must
comply with the height requirements. (See the Fences information sheets.) A deck or patio is not required
around a pool.
ACCESSORY BUILDINGS
Pool houses and pool equipment buildings must comply with setbacks for accessory buildings and require a
separate building permit. A toilet and sink may be installed in a pool house but a shower/bathtub and/or guest
house require a conditional use permit.

As requested, we have completed an Engineering Review of the documents submitted for the above referenced project.
Documents include the Certificate of Surveys prepared by Gronberg dated July 22, 2013 and June 12, 2014. Following
are our comments for your consideration:
1. The retaining walls on the southwest side of the house have been significantly revised, and it is unclear what
proposed elevations are. The Survey should be revised to provide more detail for all proposed retaining wall
work. Provide top of wall and bottom of wall elevations in key locations(i.e. grade changes and alignment
changes). Walls four feet or greater in height must be designed by a Professional Engineer, and plans submitted
for review and approval. Multi-level walls spaced less than double the height of the bottom wall apart shall be
considered one wall, and the height shall be determined from the base of the bottom wall to the top of the
upper wall.

In July of 2013 a new home was approved at 475 Oxford Road. A partial copy of
the survey is attached. We recently received a pool permit with retaining wall
changes. A partial copy of the survey is being emailed. Originals will be
available for Dave to pick up on Thursday. Please review and provide comments
by Wednesday, July 2, 2014.
