It connects the tail end of the rake rafter to the ridge beam in an effort to keep the rake rafter straight over the very long term, or at least give it an opportunity to be adjusted in the distant future. As you know, the house was designed by TEA2 Architects and engineered by A.M. Structural Engineering. Neither of which had required this extra step. Again, this was simply a system that was installed as an insurance step for the future, and is not necessary for anything other than aesthetic sag on an extended rafter. If you or the field inspector have any questions, please give me a call at 952-746- 7999.
