No. 01059 woLDAE.CONI SUBJECT: Orono Public Schools, ISD 278-Fire Alarm Remodel High School and Intermediate/Elementary School Meeting at Orono High School and Intermediate School to discuss fire alarm system requirements. Attendants: Bill Meyer, Orono Fire Marshal John Ostlund, Coordinator of Building and Grounds—Orono Schools Vaughn Dierks, Wold Architects and Engineers Tearinie Nielsen, Wold Architects and Engineers The following items are comments and recommendations for the Fire Alarm Systems based on Bill Meyer's review: High School 1. The existing fire alarm system will be replaced with a fully addressable system including horn/strobe devices installed throughout the building per ADA. 2. One new FACP will replace the two existing panels located in the mechanical room near the gym. 3. There will be(3)remote annunciator panels installed. There will be recessed FAA's located at the Music Room entry and the"Main Entry." A surface mounted FAA will be installed in the Maintenance Office. Bill reviewed and approved locations. 4. There will be manual pull stations installed only at the Kitchen/Maintenance area door, in the basement lab office,and the Main Office. The existing pull stations will be removed. 5. The exterior fire alarm horn will be replaced with a horn/strobe device. 6. Smoke detectors will be installed in the gym me77anine area. Smoke detectors will not be required in the gym per Bill. 7. Heat detectors are not required in sprinkled storage rooms(Per Bill Meyer). 8. The basement open storage area will have smoke detection and horn/strobes located through the center of the space only. 9. Wold to verify sprinkler system for possibility of installing additional flow switches(FS)for each floor. The existing FS near the new media center will be connected as required. 10. The existing addressable devices located in the media center will be reconnected to new FACP. Existing devices to be reprogrammed accordingly. 0 ... 0 Memorandum to Meeting Attendants Page Two 11. The Second and Third floors were reviewed by Bill and will be sufficiently covered with four horn/strobe devices each. 12. Smoke detectors will be installed throughout the corridors and common spaces. 13. Heat detectors will be installed in labs in lieu of smoke detectors. Intermediate/Elementary School 1. The existing fire alarm system will be replaced with a fully addressable system including horn/strobe devices installed throughout the building per ADA. 2. The new FACP will replace the existing panel located in the electrical room near the pool. The existing panels will be used as connection cabinets if required. 3. There will be(4)remote annunciator panels installed. There will be recessed FAA's located in the Link entry,the Elementary School entry, and the Intermediate School entry. A surface mounted FAA will be installed near the maintenance office in the basement of the Intermediate School. Bill reviewed and approved locations. 4. There will be manual pull stations installed near the basement boiler room,the Elementary boiler room, the Elementary office,the Link office, and the Intermediate office only. All existing pull stations will be removed. 5. The exterior fire alarm horn will be replaced with a horn/strobe device. 6. We will proceed with installing smoke detectors in the gymnasium unless directed otherwise per Bill. 7. Heat detectors are not required in sprinkled storage rooms. 8. The Elementary classrooms with windows at the corridor will not be required to have individual horn/strobe devices. 9. The existing addressable devices located in the media center will be reconnected to new FACP. Existing devices to be reprogrammed accordingly. 10. Smoke detectors will be installed throughout the corridors and common spaces. 11.
