Section includes: excavation of tank site, setting of tank, tank anchoring, backfilling, and piping and appliance installation. 1.02 References A. ASTM Specification C-136. B. Additional codes and standards, including state and local, as they apply. 1.03 Submittals A. Comply with pertinent provisions of Section 01300. Part 2 - Products 2.01 B ckfill Material A. If required, any non-select imported backfill should meet the following gradation: Sieve Size Percent Passing 3 inch 100 1 inch 90 - 100 No. 4 50 - 100 No. 200 0 - 20 2.02 Storage Tank A. The Contractor shall supply the fuel oil storage tank for this project. The storage tank shall be an STI-P3 single-walled tank, have a nominal diameter of 9 feet and a nominal length of 21 feet. The nominal capacity shall be 10,000 gallons. 1. Lifting lugs shall be provided on the tank for proper installation. 2. Appropriate openings shall be provided for installation of the piping into the containment system. 3. The tank exterior shall be prime coated and a coat of epoxy base paint applied on the exterior surface as per STI-P3 specifications. All painting shall be performed by the tank manufacturer at the time of fabrication. Where the painted surface is damaged during transportation or installation, the Contractor shall be responsible for repainting the damaged areas with the same epoxy base paint. 4. The tank shall be designed and fabricated in compliance with STI-P3 specifications and UL 58 code. The tank shall be cathodically protected. 5. The tank shall be equipped with a containment system specified in Item 2.09 of this Section. 6. Fabrication drawings of the tank shall be submitted and approved by the Engineer prior to installation. 13215-2 Orono Schools STS Project#95723-XA April 1993 /2.03 Supply and Return Lines - The tank will service boilers located in the boiler room. Supply and return lines shall consist of nominal 2 inch diameter double walled fiberglass pipe. The Contractor shall provide all necessary hardware to make necessary connections between existing piping within the building and the new piping. All piping shall be UL listed for use with petroleum products. Connections into the containment system lines shall be a Teleflex flexible connection or equivalent approved by the Engineer. A Teleflex flexible connection shall also be provided at the exterior of the building wall for both the supply and return lines. In addition, a "boot" containment sleeve shall be used to protect the flexible connection and the secondary containment piping. 2.04 Overfill Equipment - The tank system shall be equipped with overfill equipment. The overfill system shall be an overfill valve installed within the fill pipe which will be activated once 95% of tank capacity has been reached. The overfill system proposed shall be shown on the fabrication drawing and be approved by the Engineer prior to installation. /2.05 Tank Level Monitoring Equipment - The Contractor shall supply and install a tank level monitor at the site. The tank level monitor shall be a Veeder-Root TLS-350, Gilbarco Tank Monitor 3, or equivalent, with a printer and magnetostrictive probes. The Engineer will evaluate equivalent tank level monitor equipment. The Contractor shall submit manufacturer's literature on the tank level monitoring equipment with the bid form if an equivalent is proposed. The monitor console will be installed inside the boiler room as shown on Figure 3A. The Contractor is responsible for providing the electrical connection from the sender to the console. The Contractor is responsible for providing the electrical connection from the breaker box to the console. The Contractor is responsible for identification of the electrical supply locations during the pre-bid meeting. The Contractor is responsible for installing, calibrating and making operational the monitoring equipment. 2.06 Piping Sump Sensor - The Contractor shall supply and install a piping sump sensor. The piping sump sensor shall be a "float type" sensor. The sump sensor shall be installed approximately 2 inches from the base of the sump floor. The Engineer will evaluate proposed equivalent piping sump sensors. The connections between the sender and the jmonitor shall be made in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications. 2.07 Tank Anchoring - The Contractor shall mechanically anchor the underground storage tank. Anchoring shall be accomplished using deadman anchors. Figure 5A in Appendix A shows the detail for the construction of deadman anchors. The Contractor shall supply and install the deadman anchors and the associated hold-down straps in accordance with STI-P3 specifications. 13215-3 Orono Schools STS Project#95723-XA April 1993 2.08 Containment Manhole Slab - The Contractor shall install a reinforced concrete slab around the containment access manhole (see Item 3.08 in this section and Figure 4A in Appendix A). The concrete slab shall encompass the containment access manhole (specified in Item 2.10 below), as shown in Figure 4A, Appendix A. The concrete slab shall be a minimum of 9 inches in thickness. The concrete shall conform with MnDOT Concrete Mix No. 3A32 per MnDOT Specification 2461. 2.09 Containment Chamber - The Contractor shall install the containment for the tank system as shown on Figure 4A in Appendix A. The containment chamber shall be a single containment system, as manufactured by "Total Containment, Inc." or by "Enviro Products Inc.", with a 33 inch diameter containment access cover. The fill, tank level monitor, vent, supply and return lines all tie into the manway and enter into the tank system through the containment chamber. The containment system shall be ordered from the manufacturer in order to meet the specific project piping and monitoring equipment requirements. 2.10 Containment Access Manhole - The Contractor shall provide and install a 36 inch diameter access manhole for the containment chamber. The manhole cover shall be water tight. The manhole ring and cover shall be a Pemco Model 109 spring assisted steel manhole (Part No. 10936X10WT) or equivalent. Part 3 - Execution 3.01 Tank Excavation A. Excavate the tank site to the required depth and to a level grade. Required depth to be established at the preconstruction meeting. B. Remove all debris and disturbed soils from the tank site excavation. C. Excess material shall be disposed of properly off-site at no additional cost to the Owner. D. Compact disturbed soils in the excavation base to a minimum of 90% of maximum dry density as determined by ASTM D-1557.7/3.02 Anchor Installation ✓✓✓✓// A.
