have been given out since
1999. The Green Award has
been given out since 2007. In
the early '90s the chamber
awarded a Person of the Year
award.
The Business Excellence
award can only be awarded
to a chamber member, where-
as the Community Hero and
Green awards can be award-
ed to a non-member,
according to Linda Murrell,
executive director of the
chamber.
This year's Community
Hero award recipients are the
Lake Minnetonka Rotary
Club and The Rotary Club of
Excelsior.
The clubs have collaborat-
ed on numerous humanitarian
and civic projects last year.
"There were two submis-
sions for organizations and
the Rotary Clubs were unbe-
lievably strong in terms of
defining what we outlined as
criteria," Murrell said.
This year's Green Award
recipients are Don and Bar-
bara Shelby. The Excelsior
couple is being recognized for
their advocacy for a cleaner
and more sustainable environ-
ment.
Previous winners of the
Green Award include Min-
netonka High School's Earth
Club (2007), Scenic Heights
Elementary School's Outdoor
Learning Center (2008), Ton-
ka Blue (2009) and Up on
Green (2010).
The awards will be pre-
sented at the Chamber's
"Party of the Year" on March
3 at the BayView Event Cen-
ter. The event will highlight
the "season we all live for -
summer."
A silent auction will be
held to help raise money for
the 2012 Art on the Lake Art
Scholarship Fund, as well as
the chamber's community
beautification and promotion-
al programs.
