Re: Permit to remove dead trees infected with Oak Wilt
Dear Mr. Oman:
I have three small trees, diameter of 6-8 inches, that have been identified by
my professional forester as having died from oak wilt. If these trees are not
removed, the disease will spread to other oak trees on my and neighbors
property.
My neighborAhas identified one relatively large oak near our property line that
has also died from oak wilt. This tree was inspected by a city official (perhaps
you) earlier this fall and he has already applied for and received a permit to
remove this tree. All of these trees are in an undeveloped, natural area
within 75 feet of the shoreline of Lake Minnetonka. It is my neighbor's
activity and subsequent inspection by my professional forester that has
brought this situation to my attention.
There are also infected, but not yet dead, trees that we will be treating in the
spring. I have been told that the best time to remove the dead trees is in the
winter, which we intend to do if granted a permit to do so.
I have enclosed an application for a permit, along with an email from my
professional forester. As I have mentioned, the area has been was inspected
by a city official. I would be happy to accompany a city official on another
inspection if that is necessary but it is getting more difficult to diagnose thee
specific trees since fall defoliation has begun. Pictures are enclosed for your
review and file.
Thank you for your consideration.

Public Folders Hi Mike,
Options p When I was out at your house I noticed 3 dead/dying oak trees in the
Log Off north west corner of your property (down by the lake)that had oak wilt
. J or bur oak blight and they need to be removed to keep the disease from
spreading. I can remove them this winter. There also was 1 in your yard
(the leaning one)that was symptomatic for bur oak blight,I will treat
that next spring. One tree also seems to have two lined chestnut borer
infestation and I will treat that next spring also.
I will send you a detailed estimate this weekend after I take a look at
your neighbors trees near your dead oaks,to see if his trees show any
signs of disease.
Best regards,
Forrest
