Dear Mr. Baruth:
This letter is in response to our telephone conversation on
February 21, 1991 regarding the septic system construction and
conditions at 660 North Shore Drive West.
There is no documentation as to the construction of the original
septic system at 660 North Shore Drive West. However, in 1980
there is record that the septic system was repaired. The permit
and description of work done at that time is on file at the City
offices.
My examination of the City' s records indicates that the
drainfield was extended by 400 feet. The existing trenches were
not inspected so the total drainfield area at this time is
unknown. Percolation tests were not required for repairs at the
time this work was performed either, so we cannot determine
whether the drainfield meets the current City Code. Also, there
is no indication that the tanks were replaced or altered in any
way.
The septic system is considered to be substandard but in ,
satisfactory condition and has been since the repairs were made.
The septic system repair was intended to make the system function
properly, not to bring the system up to full compliance with the
Code because it was not deemed necessary at the time. Since the
drainfield repair to the septic system in 1980, there have been
no additional alterations to the system.
