Introduction
We were asked to issue a repair for the void in the concrete at the buckled post. The post was
described as item number 3 in the recommendations from Schaper Engineering dated November
8, 2015.
Observations
When the buckled post was removed it was discovered that the post had been cast into the
existing concrete slab. Removal of the post resulted in an approximate 5-1/2x5-1/2x5" void in
the slab.
Discussion
The point load carries 8880 lbs. Commonly available post bases do not allow for proper
installation inside the void as they do not facilitate the installation of fasteners. Simply filling
the void and installing the post may result in inadequate bearing.

Recommendations
The following steps to be completed in chronological order:
1. Hammer drill a 9/16" hole (take care to ensure the proper location and that the hole is plumb)
into existing foundation to receive anchor bolt.
2. Install (1) Hilti HAS-R 1/2"x 12" SS316 Anchor bolt into existing foundation with Hilti ADH
RE 500-V3 Epoxy.
3. Set post base at proper location and brace.
4. Pour Sonneborn Masterflow 928 Grout to fill existing void in concrete.
5. Allow grout to cure for 24 hours.
6. Install post as described in truss repair dated 1.9.2018.
Conclusions
The repair issued will provide adequate bearing and shear conditions for new post.
