Dear Mr. Lorence:
. ;.,On September,l5, 1994 a.site inspection was conducted to investigate a complaint about a dock
recently constructed on your property. The dock appears to cover approximately 6' of shoreline
for the entire length of the dock which is approximately 96' long. The City considers the 929.4
� elevation to -be �he �dge�of.the lake and the lake etevation was recorded on the 14th to be
928.98. The placement of this dock is in violation of Orono Municipal Code Section 1Q.56,
Subds. 16 (C-5); 16(F); and 16(L)
The City must require you to bring your dock into compliance with City codes before October
17, 1994. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at my o�ce.

Mr. Oman,
In response to your letter, on the location of my dock, I want to assure you that I intend
to rectify the problem to the City of Orono and my satisfaction.
First, let me say that my dock is in its present location of six inches off my lot line because:
1.) I don't own the riprap shore line, the county does.
2.) The county at its pleasure can come in and dredge the channel out
to my lot line at any time without my consent.
3.) The county can also come in and add more riprap (rocks}, as
the did 3 or 4 years ago. The shoreline then moves into the
channel further from my lot line. So, if I move my dock today
and the county adds more rock tomorrow, I would be out of
compliance again.
I would also like to add that my old dock was approximately three feet closer to the water o
then the new one, the frame is still intact. (SEE DIAGRAM)
My ne� door neighbor, Muria1 Senn, says that my old dock was in its originallocation for
over 20 years, which predates our present ordinance. She is also willing to write a letter
to confirm this.
I want to suggest that I move my dock to the location of my old dock, using the frame
from the oid dock to support the new docic. '�hat would place my dock over the riprap.
I have removed the decking on the dock so as to assure the city of Orono that I'm willing
to work with you to resolve this matter.
Please reply in writing as to whether my suggestion is acceptable.
