Re: Deck Construction
Dear Mr. Upton:
It has come to the attention of this department that you have recently reconstructed a deck on your
property at 3685 North Shore Drive in Orono. This letter is to notify you that the City requires
building permits for the construction of decks. Therefore,the City must require you to remove the
deck or submit a building permit application along with building plans and a survey showing the
location of the deck. This appears to be a replacement that may have gotten larger.
A review will be done and if found to be in compliance with building and zoning codes,a permit can
be issued. A deadline of November 30, 1998 has been established for submittals. If this deadline
is not met,the City will initiate legal action. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact

Re: Deck
Dear Mr. Upton:
At the February 8, 1999 Council meeting your variance request to keep an after-the-fact deck was
denied by City Council. Resolution#4235 required the deck to be removed within 14 days. As of
this date, the deck has not been removed.
Your failure to remove the deek leaves the City no alternative but to initiate legal action. Action
will be withheld until March 22, 1999. If the deck has not been removed by that date, a formal
complaint will be issued and you will be required to appear in Court. If you have any questions, feel
free to contact me at my office.
