Dear Mr. Singer:
It has come to the attention of this department that you have recently constructed a deck on your
property at 3�20 North Shore Drive in Orono. This letter is to notify you that the City requires a
building permit for the construction of a deck. Therefore, the City must require you to submit a
building permit application along with building plans and survey showing the location of the deck
A review will be done and if found to be in compliance with building and zoning codes,a permit can
be issued. A deadline of November 27, 2000 has been established for submittals. If this deadline
is not met, the City will initiate legal action. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact
me at my office.

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Swenson:
On December 20, 2000 the City received a building permit application to "fix an existing deck as
it was originally built" An inspection today confirmed that the deck was completely replaced with
new material. When a structure is removed the replacement structure is required to meet applicable �
codes.
Therefore the City must require you to submit a building plan,a certificate of survey and hard cover
calculations to verify that the structure meets zoning and building requirements. A deadline of
January 15, 2000 has been established for submittals. If this deadline is not met the City may
initiate legal action. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at my office

I am writing to inform you that renting of dock space(s) is not allowed by city ordinance,
sections 94-71 thru 94-101. Staff from this Office noticed an advertisement on Craigs
List for a seasonal rental dock. I have enclosed a fact sheet about the requirements for
residential docks with this letter. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please
