RE: Complaint of light coming from neighboring property, 3185 North Shore Drive.
Mr. Russin,
I have been out to your property twice to inspect your complaint. I was there the first time on June 18,
2015 at about 10:30pm and again on July 30, 2015 at 10:OOpm. I was unable to determine that there
was enough light shining onto your property from the outdoor light next door to be considered a
violation of Code Sec. 78-1573.
The City Council for Orono does an annual review of the City codes and ordinances to see if there are
things that may need to be amended. It seems appropriate to clarify the regulations relating to lighting,
staff proposes to review this with the Council this fall.

Sec. 78-1573. -Glare or heat.
Any use requiring an operation producing an intense heat or light transmission shall be performed
with the necessary shielding to prevent such heat or light from being detectable at the lot line of the site
on which the use is located. Lighting in all instances shall be diffused or directed away from R districts and
public streets.
